Babylon Councilman Lindsay Henry Appointed to the Appellate Division Committee on character and fitness

Effective March 2008, Babylon Town Councilman and local attorney Lindsay Patrick Henry has been appointed be the Appellate Division, Second Department of the New York State Supreme Court, to the New York State Appellate Division Committee on Character and Fitness for the Second, Tenth and Eleventh Departments.

The committee is responsible for interviewing and recommending individuals to the Court who are deemed to possess "good moral character and general fitness" and have successfully passed the State Bar examination. Committee members are appointed to serve a four-year term, and their service is non-compensatory. Members of the Committee are appointed by the Appellate Division to interview applicants for admission to the bar and certify to the court that the applicants possess the necessary character and fitness to practice law.

Henry is a member of the Garden City based law firm of Shaw, Licitra, Gulotta, Esernio & Henry, P.C. and practices law predominately in the Courts of Suffolk and Nassau Counties.

The Second Department includes just over 8 percent of New York's land area and contains slightly more than onehalf of the State's population. It is comprised of the 10 downstate counties of Richmond, Kings, Queens, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Dutchess, Orange, Rockland, and Putnam. The court hears civil appeals from the Supreme Court, Surrogate's Court, Family Court, and Court of Claims and criminal appeals from the Supreme Court and County Court in those 10 counties.
