Joseph Sacino, served in the U.S. Army

Former Massapequa and Copiague resident Joseph A. Sacino loved baseball. For many years, he played, coached and watched the great all-American pass time. He died Jan. 20, 2008. He was 77.

Mr. Sacino served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He lived in Massapequa, first on Park Lane and later Burton Lane, for 44 years.

For many years, he volunteered with the Massapequa Little League and coached the Baldwin brothers, according to his wife Joan. They moved to Copiague in 2000.

The loving father, husband and grandfather spent his career as a manager in Manhattan for a writing paper company called Marquardt.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Sacino also leaves behind his children: Deborah Braxl, David and his wife Diana and Diane Anglim and her husband Peter; 11 grandchildren who called him "Pappy;" four great grandchildren; and his siblings: Frank and Barbara Trimble. He was predeceased by his son Joseph.

He reposed at the Massapequa Funeral Home, Massapequa Park, on January 22, 2008. A Mass of Christian Burial was said Jan. 23, 2008 at St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church in Amityville. Interment followed at Long Island National Cemetery in Pinelawn.
