John Tully, Amityville resident and Navy Veteran, dies at 82
Born Aug. 25, 1925 in New York City to John and Helen (Hannon), he served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He lived in Seaford prior to moving into the Snug Harbor complex in Amityville. He was a longtime employee of Local 638 of the Steam-fitters Union in New York City. "He was a wonderful and caring father, grandfather and husband," said his wife of 14- and-a-half years, Dorothy who added that he loved living and socializing in Snug Harbor, where he played cards and pool. He also enjoyed sending time with friends and family, playing golf and was an avid Giants and Yankee fan. Mr. Tully also leaves behind children: John J., Coleen Corker, Doreen Faber and Kathleen Linn; his stepchildren: Doro thy Pennington, Maureen Padula and Jane Curry; eighteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his brothers: Cornelius and Daniel. He was predeceased by his first wife, Kathleen and his daughter, Jerrilyn Faber.
A Prayer Service was said at the Powell Funeral Home, Amityville, on Jan. 17, 2008. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. William the Abbot R.C. Church in Seaford on Jan. 18, 2008, followed by interment in Calverton National Cemetery, with military honors.
