Minuteman Defense Corps: US must enforce its laws to stop illegal immigration
by Al Garza

.In light of the latest downturn in our nation's employment and economic indicators, the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (MCDC) call upon Washington lawmakers to strengthen the economy by implementing strict employment verification laws. The implementation of legislation such as the SAVE ACT (H.R. 4088), would greatly reduce the number of illegal aliens who occupy jobs in this country, and enjoy an unfair advantage over citizens and legal foreign workers, because illegal aliens continue to be provided with the ability to receive compensation and social services, without contributing to the taxpayer burden of publicly-subsidized services.

In order to save the U.S. economy, we must change the equilibrium by permitting only those legally authorized to hold jobs to actually compete for employment. Citizens do not want to keep working harder with fewer results and fewer benefits in order for our government to continuously reward the criminal behavior of illegal aliens successfully cheating the system.

As a fifth generation legal U.S. citizen, I believe it is past time for the federal government to take the necessary enforcement steps to prevent the millions of illegal immigrants who occupy American jobs from crowding out U.S. citizen workers, while failing to contribute to the taxpayer base through payroll, FICA and other federal withhold- ing taxes. Recently, MCDC volunteers concluded their first border muster of 2008.

The writer is National Executive Director of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (MCDC) a citizenled initiative organized to stand watch at our borders and report illegal activities to the proper authorities.
