Two arrested and charged with breaking into cars in Amityville Following a foot chase, Amityville Police officers arrested two subjects, one who was tasered and the other who had jumped into a fully loaded dumpster and had to be wrestled into handcuffs. Police gave this account: On Dec. 11, at approximately 2 a.m., APOs Jeff Sears and Eric Underdonk observed two subjects walking through a used car lot at 189 Sunrise Highway. Police were suspicious of the man because there had been previous reports of break-ins to cars there. Onderkonk and Sears, took up postions at the front and side of the lot and observed the subjects taking tires out of the trunks of vehicles. As the officers approached, the two subjects ran in separate directions. As Sears approached one subject, he yelled at him to stop or he would be tasered. Instead of stopping, the subject charged at Sears, who used his taser gun to apprehend him. Meanwhile, Underdonk chased the second subject into the dumpster, rolling around with him until he was subdued. Assisting in the arrests was Sgt. Brian Scott. "It was wet and rainy and pretty nasty," said Underdonk in describing the incident. "The dumpter was full of garbage and we were rolling around in it."
The two subjects were later identified as Keenan Jones, 34, of 66 S. 289 St., Wyandanch and Dwayne Jones, 28, of 86 N. 17 St., Wyandanch. Both were charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and possession of burglar's tools. They were processed at the First Precinct.
