Amity school board looking at two finalists for supt.'s post The Amityville School Board announced this week that trustees are close to making a decision on a new Superintendent of Schools. School Board President Michele Sikhrangkur said that the board has conducted extensive interviews with several applicants and has narrowed the search down to two candidates. "We want to make sure that we make a good choice but don't want to drag this process on," she said. "We will be making on-site visits to the schools where the two finalists work (or worked) and look forward to making our announcement within the next few weeks." The school board appointed Dr. John Williams to replace Dr. Brian DeSorbe who retired. Williams assumed the post as interim superintendent Oct. 1, 2007. The board also hired an outside consultant to assist it in its search for a new permanent superintendent. Williams has a degree in school administration from Lehigh University and a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Scranton. He was superintendent in the Scranton school district from 1993 to 2004 and superintendent in the Sewanhaka School District, before coming to Amityville. Williams said late last year that he was putting his name in as a candidate to be considered for the permanent job. Sikhrangkur said she was not at liberty to say whether Williams was one of the finalists due to issues of confidentiality, but added that the board is anxious to make its final decision. Other sources confirmed, however, that Williams was one of the two candidates the board is considering for the post.
"It's important that we complete this process but it also important that we do it right and get the right person for the job," said Sikhrangkur.
