Caracappa tapped for County Undersheriff's post; DeMarco cites former lawmakers experience
Sheriff DeMarco says Joseph Caracappa's intimate knowledge of the Sheriff's Office, as well as his prior participation on the new jail project, as Chairman of the Correctional Facility Needs Assessment Committee, are key benefits that he brings to the Sheriff 's Office. While at the Legislature, Joseph Caracappa was long time member of the Public Safety Committee and served as the Committee's Vice Chairman. During his time serving as the Presiding Officer of the Legislature he demonstrated an ability to work in a bi-partisan fashion making government operate in an efficient manner for the residents of Suffolk County. "Undersheriff Caracappa will utilize his experience in Suffolk County Government to help make the Sheriff 's Office the most efficient component of the criminal justice system," said DeMarco. The Suffolk County Sheriff's Office has implemented groundbreaking and innovative programs for the residents of Suffolk County such as the ComputerCop internet safety initiative and the Criminal Alien Program in partnership with Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). "I am proud to continue to serve the residents of Suffolk County in this new capacity. Sheriff DeMarco has many great accomplishments since taking office in 2006, and it's an honor to be part of his administration," said Caracappa. In other county business, •S.C. Leg. Elie Mystal (D-Amityville), was voted as the Legislature's Deputy Presiding officer, serving with Presiding Officer, William J. Lindsay.
•S.C. Leg. Wayne Horsley (D-Lindenhurst) has been returned as chair of the economic development, higher education and energy commitee and continues to cochair the county's WIFICommittee which is scheduled to run a wireless pilot program in Amityville this year.
