Three charged with breaking into North Amityville home

Rachel Smith Rachel Smith Suffolk County Police First Squad Detectives have charged two men and a woman with the burglary of an occupied home in North Amityville home this week. Police gave this account: On Oct. 29, at about 9:20 p.m., Allen Flakes, 19, of 5 Pendale Dr, North Amityville, and James Jackson, 19, of 1471 Straight Path, Wyandanch, who was armed with a 40 cal. Glock handgun, made entry into the upstairs apartment at 10 North Grand Street, North Amityville. While Jackson held five victims at gunpoint, Flakes began to steal a laptop computer, cell phones, a Play Station III, cash and clothing. As Flakes was taking the stolen property outside to a 1992 Toyota Camry, being operated by Rachel Smith, 18, of 69 Frederick Avenue, Bay Shore, two of the victims, Giovanni Ramirez, 20, and Andres Isaza, 21, overpowered Jackson. During the struggle two shots were fired, but no one was

hit. The victims attempted to restrain Jackson, but he was able to break free and jump through a closed second story window. All three suspects then fled in the Camry. Approximately 20 minutes later, First Precinct COPE Officers John Brady and David Leath located the Camry in North Amityville and arrested all three suspects. Jackson was treated at Good Samaritan Hospital for cuts sustained to his head, right arm and right leg, while jumping through the window. Victim Andres Isaza was treated at New Island Hospital for cuts to his arm and hand.

Allen Flakes Allen Flakes All three suspects were charged with burglary 1st degree, a class "B" felony. Jackson was also charged with criminal use of a firearm 1st degree, also a "B" felony. The 40 cal. semi-automatic pistol was recovered at the scene.

The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call the First Squad at 631- 854-8152. All calls will be kept confidential.
