Elvie Hoaglund of Copiague, active community member
Longtime Copiague resident and loving mother and grandmother Elvie K. Hoaglund died Oct. 16, 2008 at New Island Hospital in Bethpage. She was 89. She was born September 25, 1919 in West Paris, Maine to Matti and Emilia (Karppinen) Heikkinen. She lived in Whitestone, Queens for many years before moving to
the Cambridge Square Condominium Complex on Scudder Ave. in Copiague."My mother was a wonderful, devoted grandmother who cared for her grandchildren for many years," said her daughter, Patricia Glatman.
Her daughter also said her mother was very active in the Cambridge Square community which she lived in for 19 years, in the Tanner Park Senior Center and the Copiague Library.
In addition to caring for her children, husband and home, she worked at the family business for many years, H&H Motors in Flushing, Queens, as a bookkeeper.
In addition to her daughter and son-in-law Alan Glatman of Amityville, Mrs. Hoaglund also leaves behind her son Richard and his wife Norene of Atlanta, Georgia; her grandchildren, Jeffrey and Dana Glatman and Kyle, and her sister, Elna Bergeron. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry in the 1970s.
The Rev. David W. Anglin, pastor, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Amityville, conducted a Funeral Service at the Powell Funeral Home in Amityville on Oct. 19, 2008. Interment followed Oct. 20, 2008 at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York.
