Patriotic exibit at Amityville Library
Col. Gilbert Potter Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution sponsored a patriotic exhibit at the Amityville Library for the month of September. Celebrating Constitution Week, Sept. 17 to 23, 20 members and guests toured the grounds and main house at the Connetquot River State Park Preserve in Oakdale.
The building, originally Snedecor's Tavern, (established circa 1820), was used as a club house by the members of the South Side Sportsmen's club of Long Island between 1866 and 1973.
Members and their guests were in residence when visiting the club for fishing, shooting and other forms of outdoor recreation until it was taken over by the state. Currently the building houses the New York State Regional Environmental Education Office and Interpretive Center, historic exhibits and the outdoor learning laboratory of BOCES-SCOPE.
Shown in the photo are Past Regent Mary Menkes of Massapequa, Chapter Chaplain Karen Mormand and Chapter Historian Pamela Shreve of Islip Terrace.
