Suffolk Police are asking the public’s assistance as they investigate the death of a Syosset man who worked as a salesman for Security Dodge in Amityville. The victim, Isaac Billig, 58, was struck and killed as he walked across Montauk Highway north to get coffee at the 7-Eleven store near there.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:44 p.m., Tues., Sept. 9. Witnesses report that Billig walked in front of a vehicle that was stopped on the westbound left turning lane, waiting to turn south onto Grand Central Avenue. As Billig walked in front of the turning vehicle, he did not notice a 2000 Toyota Avalon being driven westbound on the main lane by Cheryl Lorenz, 68, of 20 Division Avenue, Massapequa, and was struck by Lorenz’ vehicle.
Billig was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital by Amityville. He was pronounced dead at 8:26 PM. Lorenz was not injured and the Toyota was impounded for a safety check.
