Dear Editor:

On June 18 my vice president, Frank Bustamante, and I went to Albany to meet with Gov. Paterson and civic leaders from across New York State. We were there to show support for the Governor's proposed four percent cap on property taxes. This was the first step in the formation of a state-wide organization that will propose property tax relief for all New York State residents, with particular emphasis on relief for senior citizens and individuals on fixed incomes.

We are faced with opposition from the 600,000 member New York State Teachers Union as well as school administrators and school board members. These power organizations have had the upper hand in calling for more and more spending in our school districts. This never ending increase in spending is causing our seniors, our businesses and our college graduates to leave New York in record numbers. One report says that we have lost the equivalent of the City of Syracuse in people moving out of state since the year 2000.

The Governor is standing firm on his commitment to stabilize property taxes and is supported by 74% of New York State residents involved in a recent survey. Seventy four percent of the state's taxpayers are saying "Enough Already." Are you one of them? If so, you have to let your elected officials know you've had enough. The major stumbling block in getting the Governor's legislation passed is New York State Senate Speaker Joseph Bruno and the state Republican Senators.

Please, take a few minutes to write or call your Sentor and Assemblyman, as well as their leaders, and tell them "Enough Already" and that you want them to support Governor Paterson's four percent tax cap legislation. As our motto says "the only thing necessary for evil to exist is for good people to do nothing."
