Former Amityville resident Muriel E. Malley (nee Kilgour) died July 24, 2008 in Brooksville, Florida. She was 84 years old and will be remembered as an amazing mother and strong woman by her family.

"She raised her six children alone in an era when it was unheard of," said her daughter-in-law Nicole Malley who said she had a great sense of humor. "Everything she did, she did for her children."

Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. Malley moved to Amityville in 1956 and lived in homes on Maple Drive and County Line Road for 33 years. All of her children were graduates of the Amityville school system, which she worked for at one time. For more than 20 years, Mrs. Malley worked in the New York State Department of Social Services in Wyandanch.

Mrs. Malley leaves behind her children: Geraldine and her husband Peter of Springhill, Florida; Maureen of Jacksonville, Florida; Kathleen and her husband Gerald of Springhill, Florida; Raymond of Copiague, Timothy and his wife Nicole of Indialantic, Florida, and Thomas and his wife Carole of West Babylon. Five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond O.
