Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a burglary that occurred at a North Amityville home today while a mother and her two children were inside.
A woman was in the kitchen at 22 Andpress Plaza, cooking dinner for her two children, when she heard a noise at the front door at approximately 5:40 p.m. Three men, two armed with semi-automatic handguns, opened the screen door and demanded cash.
The man without the handgun stayed by the front door while the two armed men ordered the woman to her bedroom. One of the men racked his slide to put a round in the chamber of his gun. The robbers said they knew there was cash in the house. The woman gave them jewelry in a bag, but the men demanded cash. The woman then handed the men an undisclosed amount of cash from her dresser. The men told her to stay in the bedroom and they ran out the front door in an unknown direction.
The children, ages 11 and 14, were in the hallway by their bedroom at the time of the incident.
The robbers are described as black males wearing dark clothes. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call First Squad at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
