Richard O'Keefe, World War II Veteran and Copiague resident

      Richard Joseph O'Keefe, a World War II veteran who was stationed in Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked on Dec. 7, 1941, died June 19, 2008. According to his family, he never forgot the years he served his country, nor the lives that were lost in that attack. He was 86 years old and lived in Copiague since 1997.

      West Babylon resident and animal-lover Martha H. Gomes died June 18, 2008 at the Sunrise Assisted Living Center. She was 96, and had lived there for the last five years. Born December 7, 1911 in Queens, she later cared for her family and worked as a legal secretary. For many years, she lived in Jamaica, Queens.
