Bellone brings Babylon residents flowers
If you haven't noticed the beautiful wildflowers on the cloverleafs at Sunrise Highway and Route 231, 109, Wellwood Avenue and Great Neck Road, you must take note. These patches of whimsy were planted by the Town of Babylon. According to a town spokeswoman,
Supervisor Steve Bellone believes that flowers calm people, and these lovely displays are part of an even bigger Bellone program to have Babylon blooming from north and south, east and west. Last year he distributed one million daffodil and tulip bulbs to civic groups and organizations to plant in their communities. We have become so accustomed to seeing old, plastic shopping bags and paper littering these cloverleafs that the reaction to these flowerbeds was one of disbelief. Were we seeing what we thought we were seeing? It was as if, as one resident said, someone had sprinkled fairy dust around.
