Amityville needs a choice in cable service

Dear Editor,

Some people may not be aware of this, but Cablevision recently reduced the number of cable networks available to consumers without the use of a cable box. This change occurred even while Cablevision aired commercials telling its customers. Without viable competition, Cablevision is free to charge whatever pleases the Dolans. The Dolan family has a history of using Cablevision to finance their other business ventures, and when those other ventures lose money, it is the Cablevision customer that pays the bill. It is only the threat of Verizon's telephone and FIOS internet service that keeps Cablevision's charges for those services at their current level. Verizon's FIOS television service offers viable competition for those of us who don't want unsightly dishes attached to our homes. But for some reason our Village Trustees have failed to make this option available to Amityville's residents. Why is this? Why can't we have the choice of service other communities are welcoming? It doesn't make any sense. Please, people of Amityville, let the Village Trustees know that it's time to let us have a choice!

Happy to be living in Amityville Village

Dear Editor:

I just want to go on record regarding the promptness and efficiency of our Amityville Police Department and the Amityville Fire/Rescue Departments, having been the recipient of their services over a malfunctioning

carbon monoxide unit, this past week. It seemed I had no sooner hung up the telephone, clipped my dog's leash on so would could exit the house, when there they were, all geared up and ready to check on the problem.

After a thorough search with their monitors, it appeared there was no danger after all, just a bad unit (which was barely a month old).

I am so glad I live in a Village such as this where one can go from panic to relief in a matter of minutes, all because these men are with us.
