Amityville students attend vigil for the homeless
Approximately 800 people attended a candlelight vigil at Farmingdale University sponsored by the Nassau-Suffolk Coalition for the Homeless. Included in that number was Amityville
Memorial High School teacher Jason McGowan and eleven students - Kevin Torres, Siraj Cadet, Kristen Emmerich, Hellen Nunez, Tishawri Tate, Shakeim Legette, Shivinand Sohan, Crystal Cassie, Shanequa Wright, Reyana Williams and Gabriele Bernard - who not only connected and conversed with young people that are currently living in shelters, but also brought with them donations of canned goods, toiletries, clothing, and baby items. The vigil featured guest speaker Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy and motivational speaker Father Frank Pizzarelli. Professional wrestler Mick Foley, a.k.a. Mankind, also lent his support at the vigil, and spoke to the Amityville students, commending them on their commitment and involvement regarding homelessness on Long Island.
