"The warmest people you can always count on. We're so contagious not to stay awhile-the friendly Village By The Bay."
This is a verse in a song written by Amityville resident Bruce Jenney, "Village By The Bay." Jenney originally wrote the music as the theme to the Joe Franklin Show-- a radio and television talk show that was on the air for more than 40 years. He rewrote the song to fit the "old-fashioned and friendly style" Village by the Bay that he has adopted as his home.
Jenney will be playing at the Gazebo in Amityville Thurs., June 19th as part of a "Smooth Jazz Evening," from 6 and 9 p.m..
Jenney has been a songwriter since 1967, and a professional musician since he was 17 when he was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska as the lead trumpet player in the 214th Army Band. He is a musician of all trades, playing the flugelhorn, guitar, keyboard, drums, bass and singing on his three records.
Jenney had a semi-hit in 1968 with his remake of Elton John's "Take Me to the Pilot." According to an article by Ray Matuza in 20th Century Guitar, Jenney's music is a "ubiquitous blend of smooth jazz."
Although Bruce Jenney is somewhat of a celebrity, he takes his success in stride. He remains closely connected to the Village he adopted with his wife since the 1970s, and enjoys life here, eating at the local restaurants, visiting the beautiful Amityville beach, and riding his bike through the quiet, peaceful streets of the historical Village.
Jenney takes advantage of Amityville's friendliness by making friends with virtually everyone, and knows many of the town's merchants on a first-name basis. His choice of style fits the lifestyle of Amityville, the friendly Village.
