John DiLiberto elected as new Amityville Chamber of Commerce President
John DiLiberto, of Island Drafting in Amityville, was elected president of the Amityville Chamber of Commerce following an election last week. He replaces longtime President Marcia Besserman of Barkley Shades and Blinds of Amityville.
The Chamber officers declined to release the results of the race except to say that DiLiberto, who served as vice president of the Chamber, garnered more votes than Besserman to win the election. He will be appointing a vice president to serve with him during his two-year term.
This was the first contested race in the Chamber in almost a decade and a half. DiLiberto decided to run after some members had expressed interest in bringing some change to the Chamber. Besserman declined to comment on the election.
Also elected to the board directors were Larry Basile, Stuart Hilbert, Roberta Hirsch, Gerry O'Neill and Al James. Treasurer Ernie Caramanico ran without opposition and was reelected.
The newly elected officers will be sworn in at the Chamber's July meeting.
The Chamber is a community of business owners who work as volunteers to promote the local economy and for the benefit of the community as a whole.
