New Amityville Village Hall nearing completion

The walls have been spackled and are awaiting paint. The floors still need to be raised and finished, but the construction on the new Amityville Village Hall is going strong.     The new Village Hall is a three-story, traditional structure that is a LEEDS Gold Certified building, which means it meets some of the highest criteria for being environmentally friendly. The LEED green building rating system is developed and administered by the U.S. Green Building Council, a non-profit coalition of building industry leaders. It is designed to promote design and construction practices that increase profitability while reducing the negative environmental impacts of buildings and improving occupant health and well-being.     The first floor of the building will house the Amityville Police Department. It is designed with a Sally Port, for the safe and easy transport of arrestees to and from the building.     The second floor will  house the Village offices including the administration, building and assessor’s office. Court administrative offices will also be housed on the second floor.     The third floor is the Village Court with room for conference rooms and an office for the Village Prosecutor. The Court room has sky lights and windows on both sides, bringing in a tremendous amount of natural light.     “We wanted something that was beautiful and efficient but not extravagant,” said Mayor Peter T. Imbert as he toured the building. “Hopefully this will serve the people of Amityville well into the future and it will be something that they can be proud of.”
