The students in Ester Davila's and Flor Melgar's Spanish native and level IV and V classes at Walter G. O'Connell Copiague High School recently participated in Hofstra University's annual Poetry Contest. For the fourth year in a row, Copiague students were awarded the top two spots in original poetry and first place in recitation. Kevin Reyes achieved first place for his original poem, El Immigrante, while Ana Rojas took second with, El Dia que yo me muera. Catherine Molina was awarded first in recitation.
"We are proud and grateful to both Mrs. Davila and Ms. Melgar for their continued support and encouragement of our students' talents and creativity," stated Vivian Fiallo, coordinator of ESL.
