Amityville Students Love a Book for Literacy
Amityville Public School District Park Avenue third graders in Jane Dady's class embraced their love of literature with a Valentine's Day Love-ABook event. Lounging in pink and red on their personal towels and blankets, the students spent some quality time with poems and prose of their choice. Students swapped their favorite pieces of literary work with their classmates and teamed up reading to one another in a story time setting. Throughout the day special guests from the commu- nity and district administration offices joined the class to share the various works that have a special place in their heart.
At Amityville's Northeast Elementary School, students also celebrated Valentine's Day by showing their love for reading and welcomed special guest reader Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Williams. Students gathered in the story corner wearing their handmade Valentine's Day nameplates, listened to Dr. Williams read aloud and exchanged Valentine's Day jokes.
