Volunteers needed to help victims of domestic violence

The Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence seeks volunteers to staff its 24-hour hotline. The hotline provides crisis intervention, supportive counseling, information and referrals, as well as screening for shelter.

As a hotline volunteer, you will undergo intensive training which occurs during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A four hour per week/ six-month commitment is required. Note that this volunteer opportunity follows an evening, after 5 p.m. or weekend schedule and can be done from the volunteer's own home.

Volunteers must possess excellent listening skills and a land line telephone, in addition to other requirements. Bilingual is a plus. For more information about this opportunity, contact Suzanne Staub, community educator at 631-666-7181, extension 324 or visit www.sccadv.org.
