Kindergarten student initiates service project
Meghan Bonser attends St. Martin of Tours school in Amityville. She is a kindergarten student who initiated and executed a service project all on her own. She heard about the poor people of Wyandanch who recently experienced a devastating fire in their parish. Meghan sold bookmarks, personally decorated, for $1 each. More...

Staffing issues discussed at Amityville School Board budget meeting

The Amityville School Board held its third budget workshop Wed., March 19, reviewing proposals that include hiring of additional staff to address, in part, an anticipated increase of 64 students, and state-mandated services. Those include student testing and evaluations, counseling, career planning, job placement, crisis intervention and psychological services. More...

Longtime Amityville resident and loving caretaker Nettie A. Eleazer Foster, who was lovingly called "Mother Foster," died March 9, 2008. A Native American of the Shinnecock Tribe in Southampton, she was 80 years old. Born October 5, 1927 in Bellport to Paul Cuffee and Rose (Smith) Eleazer, she dedicated her life to caring for others.
