•Citizenship classes will be offered Wednesdays beginning tonight, March 12, 6 to 9 p.m. for those planning to take the Citizenship Test administered by the U.S. Department of Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). To register call B.O.C.E.S. at 631-667-6000, extension 327 to register.

•Western Suffolk B.O.C.E.S. is offering GED/ESL programs Thurs., March 13, 6 to 9 p.m. for adults 21 and older. Individual assignments are developed by certified instructors and delivered to the library for students to pick up and complete at home. Assistance by telephone is available. •On Thurs. March 20, 7 to 9 p.m. pastry chef Linda Murtha will teach the importance of low carb living for diabetics and celiacs. Amityville Oak and John Streets 631-264-0567

•The library's large showcase will feature an exhibit of handicrafts from Africa including fabrics, woodwork and straw weaving. The items were featured in the Natural History Magazine circa 1950.

•A collection of Valentine's Day cards is on display in the small showcase. Left to the Library by its first director, Helen Badger, who served from 1915 to 1934, this exhibit includes ornate and intricate cards that are far removed from modern greeting cards.
