On Sun., Jan 27, a brunch including a Chinese auction was held at the Unqua Corinthian Yacht Club in celebration of the first anniversary of the Bay Village Civic Association.

Almost 100 people were present, including association members and their guests, the Village trustees, the Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals and other Village Board members. Interim Superintendent of Schools, Dr. John Williams and other members of the Amityville school administration were in attendance. Carolyn Dodd, president of the ATA also took part in the celebration.

Over 40 items, donated by local business and residents were auctioned. The proceeds will be used toward a project to enhance the Village. Other enhancement projects are planned, including a continued collaboration with Amityville Memorial High School to beautify the front of the school. Last November more than 1,000 daffodil bulbs were planted in front of the school.

Bruce Jenney entertained the crowd with his live music. Overall, it was a lovely afternoon and an enjoyable community event. It will likely become an annual tradition.

Also known as the BVCA, the Association represents the common concerns of the residents of the Village of Amityville. Their mission is to enhance and preserve the charm and historic character of the Incorporated Village of Amityville and to respond to the needs of the homeowners in their quest to preserve their home values and quality of life.

The Association's objectives will be met by addressing such issues and traffic and safety, sensible and sensitive planning and development and the improvement of Village codes. The BVCA also hopes to encourage effective communication between Village officials and residents and to foster relationships with existing community organizations and businesses.
