Longtime Amityville resident Sherman "Johnnie" Lee Wilson was known for always having a smile on his face and faith in his heart. He died Dec. 7, 2007 at New Island Hospital in Bethpage. He was 57 years old.

Born March 20, 1950 in Reidsville, North Carolina to Walter C. and Alma (nee Thomas), he relocated to Amityville at an early age.

"He was a friend to everyone," said his companion of 22-years, Georgie "Hazel" Evans who added that he was a devout worshiper at Grace Community Church. "He could make a joke out of everything and always had a story to tell. Everyone that knew him will miss him."

He was predeceased by his parents.

The Rev. Robert L. Burgess, pastor of Grace Community Methodist Church officiated at the Funeral Service on Dec. 11, 2007 followed by interment in Amityville Cemetery. Arrangements were under the care of Powell Funeral Home in Amityville.
