Village okays cabaret license
by Carolyn James

The Amityville Village Board approved a limited application for a cabaret license for Lorenzo's catering at 58 Albany Ave., Amityville. The applicant, Carolina Concepcion, asked the Village for permission to hold small parties in the basement of the building, which meets all parking and building code requirements.

TheV illage had discussed the request and was initially concerned because the owner had held parties there and police had been called to break up unruly crowds. Concepcion told the board that the incident was an "isolated" one and that since that, she and her husband have put procedures into place to ensure that it does not happen again.

"We had allowed a non profit group to use the space for a fundraiser and there were things that happened that we did not approve," said Concepcion, who was represented in her application by Joseph Bezzell.

"My clients have tried to run their establishment in a firstclass manner in the same way they beautified the site," said Bezzell.

The board considered setting down some regulations including ensuring that the doors of the building be closed and that the parties be no more than 100 people and end at midnight.

In other business the Village reported that:

•the fire department responded to 107 calls in November;

•repair of lighting along Route 110 is proceeding and that a company was hired to do the work;

•the building department took in $5,570 in revenue for the month;

•construction on two major sites in the Village; the southwest corner of Merrick Road and Ketcham Avenue and the northeast corner of County Line Road and Merrick is to proceed as owners of both sites have gone through all of the planning and zoning processes and have secured building permits.
