Pasquale Pescitelli, father of local police officers, businessman and coach

Pasquale (Patty) Pescitelli
Lifelong Amityville resident Pasquale "Patsy" Pescitelli, Jr. who co-owned and operated the Broadway Heights Dairy, died Nov. 24, 2007 at Hospice Inn in Melville. He was 78 years old and will be remembered by his family as both a "hard worker" and a "hard player."

"Sports was his life," said his son Bruce, an Amityville Police Department Detective. "Even though he worked many long hours, he would always find time to play baseball with us kids."

His passion for baseball was from his own experiences as a minor league baseball player for the New York Yankees a position he maintained until the call of family and country. In 1980, he was inducted into the Long Island Softball Hall of Fame, and he spent more than 12 years coaching for Amityville's Little League.

He was also well known for the business he ran for more than 40 years, the Broadway Heights Dairy, formerly located on Route 1 10 in Amityville.

"He was just big hearted and had a huge smile for everyone ," said his son,.

Born May 6, 1929 in Amityville to Pasquale F. and Mary (nee Compitello), he served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1015 and St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church.

Mr. Pescitelli leaves behind his wife, Barbara C. (nee Creamer); his children: Dale and his wife Teresa, Bruce and his wife Donna, Robert, a Nassau County Homicide Detective, and Thomas, also a member of the Amityville Police Department, and his wife Marcia. His grandchildren also survive him: Sara and her husband Shaun Gebhart, Dale Jr., Jessica, Kaitlyn, Robbie, Patrick, Jennifer and Brianna; his great grandson Brody Patrick Gebhart; and his brother Don. He was predeceased by his siblings: Michael, Catherine, Veronica Mancuso and Josephine Mahoney.

The American Legion Post #1015 conducted a service at the Powell Funeral Home, Amityville, on Nov. 27, 2007 followed by a prayer service. Father Richard T. Stelter, pastor, St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church, officiated at a Mass of Christian burial assisted by the Consolation Ministry and members of the family. Interment followed in Trinity Cemetery, Amityville.
