Amityville Artists' Circle opens its doors to St. Martin of Tours art students Despite a steady downpour for most of the day, six art classes from St. Martin of Tours School in Amityville walked to the Circle Gallery on Broadway for an art appreciation day on Nov. 6. Under the aegis of art teacher Danielle Nezin, nearly 150 students from grades six, seven and eight stopped in the gallery recently opened by the Amityville Artists' Circle (AAC), a group of 70 artists and volunteers dedicated to bringing art and culture to the village and surrounding communities. Each of the classes heard a brief introduction to the exhibits from Amityville artist Roger Schroeder, who offered that "not all art is on canvas." Students then went to their assignment, which included writing down impressions, observations and critiques of the art work on display. On hand to field questions were another local artist, Barbara Spizzirri, and AAC Director Eileen Kretz-McCarthy. On the way back to St. Martin, students voiced their enthusiasm for the visit and the art work. "I liked the abstract art," said one student, while another shared her fondness for the "real life" paintings. Slated for the spring is a student art show at the Circle Gallery, located next to Vittorio's Restaurant at 186 Broadway.
