Amity Schools welcome new administrator

Shown in the photo is Laurel Garofolo, the Amityville Union Free District's new administrator for pupil personnel and special education services.
The Amityville Public School District has announced the appointment of a new district administrator for pupil personnel and special education services. Laurel Garofolo joins the district with 25 years of experience in special education. She holds an M.A.L.S. degree from SUNY Stony Brook, and an administrative degree from Dowling College. Garofolo is also certified in elementary special education from nursery through grade 12, and holds a secondary mathematics certification.

Prior to joining the Amityville team, Garofolo taught fifth through twelfth grade in the Wyandanch Public School District for 11 years. She also spent time in the William Floyd Public School District as a resource room teacher, and as the chairperson of secondary special education in the Patchogue-Medford School District. Garofolo was also an assistant principal at the middle school level in the Longwood Public School District, and directed the district's pre-K and elementary level Special Education Programs for two years. Garofolo is happy to be an advocate for Amityville students

and their families. "All of our students are everyone's students," Garofolo stated. "It is important as a team of educators to embrace children of all needs."
