Former Mayor honored by Masons

On Saturday evening, October 13, Emil G. Pavlik, Jr., former mayor of the village of Amityville and longtime trustee of Amityville Lodge No. 977, received the coveted Dedicated Service Award in a public ceremony held in Amityville Masonic Temple's lodge room. The ceremony was held immediately following a catered dinner to mark the event.

Wesley C. Powell, himself a Dedicated Service Award winner and past master of Amityville Lodge, emceed the ceremony. Attended by more than a hundred brothers, family members and guests, the event hosted many prominent political figures and business men and women from the Amityville area, including State Sen. Owen Johnson, Babylon Town Supervisor Steve Bellone and Rev. Randolph Geminder, rector of St. Mary's Episcopal Church.

"It was a privilege to be there to see Emil honored by members of his Lodge in front of so many friends-political and social- from the entire Village," said Father Geminder who has known Pavlik for 32 years.

Pavlik is a senior governing member of St. Mary's Church. "He is always available for any and all labors needed by this community and continues to work for the betterment of all of Amityville," Geminder said.

Pavlik was "raised" or brought into the Lodge on March 19 1963 by his father, Emil G. Pavlik, Sr., who was master of Amityville Lodge in 1945. Emil Pavlik, Jr. went on to become master of the Lodge in 1972 and has been a trustee of Amityville Lodge for more than 11 years.

"When they first told me I was going to receive this honor, it didn't really sink in," said Pavlik. "When I walked into the lodge that night and looked around it finally hit me that I was being honored by people I work with. It meant a great deal to me, especially since very few people receive this award."

Pavlik added that he was sure his father, now deceased, was looking down on him with pride that night.

A lifetime resident of Amityville, Pavlik made his career as an engineer and program manager for Long Island's Grumman Aerospace Corporation and still works part time for Northrop Grumman Corporation as a consultant.

From 1987 to 1997, he served as Mayor in the Village of Amityville. During that time he served on the Suffolk County Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee and on the Executive Board of the New York State Conference of Mayors. He is a past president of the Suffolk County Village Officials Asso- ciation and the Tri-County Village Officials Association.

Paviik has received numerous other awards including Manager of the Year (two times) at Grumman Aerospace Corporation and in 2004, received the Amityville Rotary Club's Frank Powell Humanitarian Award for outstanding community service.

He has been married to his wife Judy, for 44 years and the couple have two sons, a daughter and five grandchildren.
