The friendly Village is also the blessed Village Dear Editor: Here in Amityville, we are blessed in many ways. Surrounded by gracious homes, wide tree-lined boulevards and water views as far as the eye can see, Amityville's assets provide merely a backdrop to the explosion of color that Mother Nature provides us with each autumn. However, during every season in Amityville, we are fortunate to have our dedicated Parks' Commission working tirelessly to enhance our natural surroundings. Many of us take for granted the amount of work that is involved in creating the beautiful scenery to which we have become so accustomed. Be-ribboned cornstalks adorning every lamppost each fall, pine boughs and multitudes of twinkle lights each winter, bountiful planters and hanging baskets during the long spring and summer seasons. All this is planned, ordered and installed by a small group of volunteers (as well as maintained by our hard working Department of Public Works). Headed by Corinne Budde, this tireless group consists of Pat Cahaney, Geri Fallot, Jane Margeson, Marion Johnson, Pat Durnin and Jen Auperin.
As always, there is an open invitation to the entire community for help. Last winter in nearby Babylon Village, I personally witnessed dozens of families and friends armed with their own ladders and tools, assisting in the Village decoration. It was a delightful display of community spirit and good old-fashioned holiday cheer. Surely Amityville can do this as well. If nothing else, the next time while driving through town, take a moment to look around and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us and those that silently make it happen. Karen Klein, Amityville
