Amityville Seniors sketch and snack at the Circle Gallery

Shown in the photo, artist and instructor Ron Thomson assists seniors in finding their inner artist.
The Amityville Artists' Circle Gallery opened its door to local senior citizens on Wednedsay, October 24, for two hours of drawing and lunch. The class, attended by 13 seniors and accompanied by Senior Citizens Director Pat O'Neill, was taught by Amitville artist Ron Thomson.

With the aid of Thomson's skillful and plentiful drawings, simple shapes evolved into artistcally rendered human figures and animals. Thomson, a longtime art instructor, turned serious seniors into smiling ones as he shared anecdotal stories and reflections on art.

The Amityville Artists' Circle (AAC), founded in 2001 and dedicated to providing art and culture to the Village of Amityville and surrounding communities, supplied drawing paper, pencils, erasers and lunch for the group. Assisting the seniors were AAC Director Eileen Kretz- McCarthy, Victoria Carlisi, Roger and Sheila Schroeder, and Evelyn Rothenburger. As one senior said, "We had both our artistic souls and our stomachs fed."

The Circle Gallery is located at 186 Broadway, Amityville, next to Vittorio's restaurant.
