MHS offers Career Caf. and Alumni Forum

Last May, students enrolled in business classes at Massapequa High School Main Campus participated in the first annual Career Café and Alumni Forum. The Career Café provided an opportunity for students to speak with professionals from various career fields. Approximately 100 professionals volunteered their time to talk with students about the requirements and education needed for specific careers, provide advice on ways to succeed, and share their own career experiences.

The Alumni Forum portion of the event was a chance for current students to meet former Massapequa students who work in various careers, ranging from finance to firefighter. They shared their success stories and advice with the students, who felt a personal connection with the presenters because they all started from the same place.

This event was possible due to the efforts of the Massapequa Partnership for Career Development, the newly formed district advisory board, which is made up of educators, parents, students, and businessmen and women. The group meets 4 to 5 times per year to plan events and discuss ways to better prepare students for the 21st Century workforce.

If you are interested in joining the advisory board or if you would like to participate in future career events, please e-mail Denise DeLury at:
