Sewall “Jack” Shaw, 96

Amityville resident Sewall S. "Jack" Shaw Jr. was 96 when he died October 17, 2007 at his home in Fort Myers, Florida. He had lived in Baldwin for many years, before moving to Amityville to live with his daughter's family.

Born August 8, 1911 in Brooklyn to Sewall S. and Bess (nee Trimm) Shaw, he worked for Mobil Corporation for more than 40 years, retiring when he was 62 as assistant secretary. He was a longtime member of Corporate Secretaries of America.

Mr. Shaw leaves behind his children: Suzanne Gaskell and her husband Lee of Amityville and Alan of Shelter Island; his grandchildren: Gregory Gaskell, Jeffrey Gaskell, Stephanie Warson, Stephen, Todd and Bradley; and his 11 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 56 years, Vera D. in April 1992 and his sister Christine Ford.

A funeral service was held at the Powell Funeral Home, Amityville, on October 19, 2007 officiated by the Rev. David W. Anglin, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amityville. Interment followed in Ocean View Cemetery on Staten Island, New York.
