Edward Caramanico: carpenter and former resident Former Amityville resident Edward Caramanico, who was a retired carpenter for Grumman, died September 21, 2007 at St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson. At the 85 years old and was a resident of Ridge. Born May 23, 1922 in Brooklyn to Anthony and Josephine (nee DeMeo), he moved to Amityville in 1933 with his family. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He was stationed in Italy and received several medals, including the Bronze Star. Upon his return, he started his own family in a home he built and did local carpentry work. In 1979, he went to work for Grumman Aerospace in Bethpage as a carpenter until his retirement in 1990 when he and his wife moved to Ridge. "Uncle Eddy was a great friend as well as a great uncle," said his nephew Ernie Caramanico of Amityville. "We shared many good times hunting Upstate and our family will mourn his loss." Mr. Caramanico leaves behind his children: Edward M. and his wife Barbara of Florida and Linda Kenney of Moriches; his grandchildren: Lisa Ellis and her husband Dave and Jessica Bennett and her husband Greg; his great grandchildren: Parker, Amanda Ellis, Lakota Bennett and Crystal Blackwood; his siblings: Clara Lepicier, Gloria Springer and Ernest Caramanico; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Virginia G. (nee Miller) in 1992, his sister Helen Nofi, his brothers Fred, Jack, Joseph and Alfred and his grandson William Terry.
A prayer service was conducted at the Powell Funeral Home, Amityville, on September 24, 2007. Father Richard T. Stelter, pastor, St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church officiated at a Mass of Christian Burial assisted by the Consolation Ministry and members of the family on September 25, 2007. Interment, with Military Honors, followed in Trinity Cemetery, Amityville.
