MEET THE VOTERS
We were out last week asking voters what was on their minds during this election season. Following are some of their responses:

Elizabeth Gusmano, Copiague, homemaker "We love Copiague and we'd like our politicians to help us continue to live here. You can raise your children here and our Town beach is beautiful.I am happy with the current (Town) administration, but sometimes shake up is good, and new blood is good."
Donald Decker, Massapequa resident, retired "We need new people in office, I can't afford the taxes and I don't want to move to North Carolina. These officials are elected to figure out why taxes are so high and do something about it and they don't. They are just busy polishing apples or something."
George Muckian, Lindenhurst, retired LIRR employee "Get rid of the illegal immigrants. As far as taxes, it's hopeless, taxes will never go down."
Phil Gandios, Amityville resident, co-owner of a furniture business "We seem to have lot of parks in the area. It would be nice if there was something that contributed to the tax base by enhancing the business district rather than adding more parks. I am also concerned about housing prices plummeting."
Richard Nicewitz, West Babylon, retired IBM employee "Keep taxes down on Long Island so the kids can stay here." He added, he wants politicians to remember the senior citizens. "Those over 70 should get a break on school taxes."
William Borysiuck, Amityville resident, retired stockbroker "I'm concerned with the war but locally, I think, senior citizens need to have more breaks with taxes. I already get the Star and veterans exemptions (etc) and it still costs too much to live here. As for who I'm voting for locally I haven't been following who's running. I'll do that a couple days before I vote."
Alan Glatman, Amityville, owner of Christoffer's Office Products "Bush must go. We need to slowly phase out of the war and get our troops out because we shouldn't have been there in the first place. Locally, as you can see we are moving our business after 80 years because there's no retail left in the village. Something has to be done about revitalizing the business district as well as taxes."
Jennifer Davey, Massapequa Park, school teacher "I am concerned about illegal immigration. I'm appalled that people are questioning our department of homeland security and spending taxpayers' money on seeing whether or not it has value. That's ridiculous... we need to be safe."
Ron Thompson, Amityville resident, artist This war has to end and we need to get our troops out of Iraq. We need a new president. Locally, I am confused about who to vote for because the candidates don't talk about the issues and what they'd do, they just criticize each other."
Evelyn Rothenburger, Amityville resident art teacher "I am mainly concerned about our business area because it isn't doing well and rent is too high. That and the huge amount of traffic in the village, something needs to be done. I am not so concerned nationally."
