Amity High student chosen to perform at Apollo Theater

Terrence Washington, a student at Amityville Memorial High School, auditioned at the Apollo Theater playing the tenor saxophone on September 15. He was chosen out of 300 contestants to perform on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 for the "Amateur Night."

Washington, now in eleventh grade, has only been playing the tenor saxophone since seventh grade. He has been taught by music teacher and mentor Chris LaMarca and plays with the Big Bay Band as well as the school's regular classical band and jazz band.

Washington's inspirations are John Coltrane, Charlie Parker and Dexter Goardon.
