New Village Hall: underway and on budget The construction of the new Amityville Village Hall is on time and on budget, according to Mayor Peter T. Imbert. And while it is difficult to determine the date of completion, he said, he anticipates the Village will move into the buiding sometime next summer. "It really is moving along very well and we anticipate having the roof on and the windows in by this week," said the Mayor. The Village has also taken possession of the large flagpole that was in front of Amity Chevrolet on Merrick Road. It was donated to the Village by the property owner Bob Rais and is now in the Village's Highway Department. It will be put in front of the new Village Hall. "We did not have anything budgeted for a new flag pole and they are very expensive, probably in the range of $20,000," said Imbert. "This is a beautiful one and we will be putting it up in front of the new Village Hall once the work is completed."
In other Village news, the Mayor said that the Village is in negotiations for the sale of the house that was willed to the Village by the owner. The Village took out bonds to purchase the home across the street that was owned by the Amityville PBA, and demolished it to make room for the new Village Hall. Once the property the Village inhereted is sold, the Village will pay off the bonds.
