Dank Tree Experts Owner: Dan Dankenbrink

Daniel H. "Dan" Dankenbrink, the owner of Dank, Inc., a tree care company based in Massapequa for more than 30 years, died suddenly September 3, 2007 at New Island Hospital in Bethpage. The longtime Amityville resident was 55 years old.

Born August 22, 1952 in Queens to Henry and Margaret (Kohler), he started his own business on Old Sunrise Highway in Massapequa in 1974. In addition to taking care of local trees he has also held a longtime contract with the City of New York to get rid of any long horned beetle infested trees.

"He was a nice, hard working guy who didn't complain about things," said his longtime friend and investment banker Gary Slavin."I will remember him best as Mr. Christmas tree because I get my tree there every year. He always made it special with the holiday music and a blazing fire."

Dankenbrink also placed a Christmas tree on the top of his building every year, a tradition appreciated by many locals.

His employees agreed that he was a wonderful employer and person.

"He was a doll, with a good heart, and we'll miss him very much," said Pat Barbari and Anne Cunningham who have worked respectively as dispatcher for 13 years and a bookkeeper for 23 years at Dank Tree.

Mr. Dankenbrink leaves behind his wife of almost 25 years Deborah of Amityville; his children: Jessica and Mary Ellen; his mother, Margaret; his sister, Diana Mullady and her husband Gerald; his mother-in-law, Kathleen Wisker; his sisters-in-law: Mary Ellen and Dr. Sheldon Feinberg, Sharon and Robert Bilello and JoAnne and Timothy Meyer; his brother-in-law, Fred Kam; his nieces and nephews: Sean Mullady, Timothy Mullady, John Feinberg, Robbie Bilello, Stephanie Bilello, Stephanie Dumelle and her husband Bill, Jacqueline Kam and Brendan Duffy. He was predeceased by his father, Henry, his father-in-law, John J. Wisker and his sisterin law Kathy Kam.

The Reverend David Meyers, pastor, St. David's Lutheran Church, Massapequa Park, officiated at the Powell Funeral Home, 67 Broadway, Amityville, on September 11, 2007. A prayer service was held at the funeral home on September 12, 2007 followed by interment in St. Charles Cemetery, East Farmingdale.
