AMITYVILLE ATHLETES MAKE HISTORY:

AMITYVILLE ATHLETES MAKE HISTORY: Amityville's 8-year-old traveling baseball team was named the bronze medalist's of the District 24 Invitational Division August 4. The championship capped off a year of hard work and training beginning at the Amityville Little League level, according to the team's coach Rob Rodriguez. "It took a lot of work to get the kids there," said Rodriguez. "From the outset we followed the theme: It takes team work to make the dream work."

And, that is exactly the magic that brought Amityville's 8-year-olds to the champship. "Our success was not the result of what one or two kids did individually," said Rodriguez. "It was the result of all of the kids working together as a team; that is what made it happen."

They are the youngest players in Amityville Little League history to win the playoffs between 10 towns. They are shown in photo left to right:Back row coach John Grahn, Josh Hundal, Thorin Sanchez, Bryan Nifenecker, head coach Rob Rodriguez, Ariel Luna, Nick Demarco, Niles Rodriguez and assistant coach Ariel Luna; Bottom row, Johnny Grahn, Isiah Mitchell, Chris Monohan and Timmy Dilberto. Not shown are players Andrew Abate and Keon Thomas.
