The Long Island Home appoints John O'Connell to Board of Directors

On Thursday, August 30, John T. O'Connell was appointed to The Long Island Home Board of Directors in Amityville. O'Connell is the former president and CEO of the Health and Welfare Council of Long Island, Inc. and is presently consulting at Nassau University Medical Center.

O'Connell brings a wide breadth of experience and knowledge in the healthcare field and has been instrumental in securing funding for countless programs for the needy of our community. Programs such as: Child/Family Health Plus, The Nassau Fight for Families Coalition, The Long Island health and human service response to September llth disaster, The Nassau Health Care Partnership, The Long Island Voluntary Organizations Assisting in Disasters, The Long Island Unmet Needs Roundtable, The Long Island Earned Income Tax Credit Campaign, The Long Island Anti Hunger Forum and the Nassau Nutrition Outreach Project.

O'Connell has diligently worked to make a difference. He has served or is serving on the Regional Commissioner of the New York Sate Commission on Health Care Facilities for the 21st Century, Co- Chair on the Nassau County Executive Advisory Committee on Human Services, a founding member of Medicaid Matters, a New York Statewide Coalition, The New York State and Nassau/Suffolk Coalitions for the Homeless, The New York State Nutrition Consortium, The National Grants Committee as well as Speaker Sheldon Silver's Health Care Task Force.

O'Connell resides in Brooklyn with his wife, Gretchen Hartman, and they have proudly raised two children, a son, Ian and a daughter, Molly.
