Tim Ryan: Babylon Town Board Press Aid and Political Spokesman

Tim Ryan, a well regarded speech writer, news director and radio personality who worked for former Town of Babylon Supervisor Ray Allmendinger for many years, died September 8, 2007 in Florida. He was 60- years-old and was stricken with a heart attack while he played a game of golf in Florida, where he retired two years ago.

"He was a really talented man, a good guy and everyone liked him," said Harry Withers, a former Babylon Councilman and now the Republican County Leader in Suffolk

Ryan, born in Brooklyn, served as an Army combat reporter in Vietnam before becoming a news director of WBAB radio in Babylon. He worked as a press aide for the Babylon Town Board for about ten years during the 1970s, a spokesper- son for then-Town Supervisor Allmendinger during the 1980s. He later worked as a spokesman for New York State Senator Dean Skelos (RRockville Centre) in 1988, and for 12 years served as chief spokesman and speech writer for former Suffolk County Executive Robert Gaffney. He and his wife, Patricia, lived in East Patchogue until his retirement to Florida in 2005.

According to his wife, he loved to play golf and was an avid baseball memorabilia collector who was a New York Mets fan.

Mr. Ryan leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Patricia of Summerfield, Florida; his daughter, Bonnie of Cambridge, Massachusetts; his brothers: James of Brussels, Belgium and Robert and Christopher of New Port Richey, Florida.

He reposed at the Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home in The Villages, Florida on September 12, 2007. A Military Burial took place September 13, 2007 at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
