Diocese of Rockville Centre distributes historical photos of local churches

The Diocese of Rockville Centre recently unearthed hundreds of historical photographs of local parishes. In the spirt of the jubilee year, the Diocese has distributed the photos to the media and has created a Diocesan Time Capsule, within which the photos will be placed.

Shown is Our Lady of Assumption parish during its 50th anniversary year in 1978. Originally a mission of St. Martin Parish, in Amityville, Our Lady of the Assumption had four administrators from 1928 to 1933. During this time a foundation of a church was built and covered with

a roof to serve as a church where the first Mass was offered in 1928.

"We are pleased to share this feature with you so your readers can get a glimpse of their community's past," said Angela Cave, communications assistant for the Diocese.
