Park Avenue Memorial has a field day
The third grade classes honored the Amityville Police Department and presented letters to Lt. Donald Dobby and Officer Pam Slack who represented the department at the ceremonies. The banners have been on display in the lobby of the Amityville Police Station. The fourth grade classes honored the Amityville and North Amityville Fire Departments. On hand for the presentation of banners and letters were former Amityville Fire Chief Dennis James, who is also a member of the Amityville Board of Education and Fireman Townsend Thorn, whose wife Kathleen is a fourth grade teacher at Park Avenue Memorial Elementary School. The fifth graders honored the Suffolk County Police with DARE team members present to accept the letters and banners. These officers work with the fifth grade students during the year through the DARE program. The fifth grade band, under the direction of music teacher Chris LaMarca, also performed.
Following the opening ceremonies , the students enjoyed fun and games. Students proceeded to various activities that included kickball, bowling, newcomb, track races, tennis ball throw and dancing activities. The Amityville Parent and Teachers Association supplied water bottles, snacks and ice pops for the students. Field day was coordinated by physical education teachers Jessica Bernius and Jonathan Bloom.
