Frank Hafner: Longtime Amity Harbor Resident

Longtime Amity Harbor resident Frank S. Hafner, who spent his life working in the medical industry, died the day after his 94th birthday on August 19, 2007 at his home where he lived for 32 years.

Born in Manhattan on August 18, 1916 to Frank and Julia (Gumner), he retired in 1975 as a Stationary Engineer at Bordens in LongIsland City and then from Bellvue Hospital where he was employed by the City of New York.

Mr. Hafner, who loved the water, volunteered for many years with the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 13-1. He also loved to fish on the Great South Bay.

He leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Esther; his children: Virginia, Frank F. and Richard; his grandchildren: Danielle Hamilton and Ryan. He was predeceased by his grandson Stephen Chase.

The Reverend Herbert Kern officiated at a Funeral Service at the Powell Funeral Home in Amityville on August 21, 2007. A prayer service was held at the funeral home on August 22, 2007 followed by interment in Pinelawn Memorial Park.
