Edith Sauers: Beloved Amityville Centenarian Longtime Amityville resident Edith Marie Sauers, who spent her life caring for her large family, died August 14, 2007 at her Albany Avenue home. She was 100-years-old. Born in Jericho to Henry and Marie Uffman, she dedicated her life to her children, husband and home. She was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amityville. "Everyone she met, she touched in a special way," said her son, Gilbert. Mrs. Sauers leaves behind her children: Gloria of Hobe Sound, Florida, Gilbert and his wife Ethel of Massapequa, Thomas and his wife Jacqueline of Copiague, Ronald and his wife Elenore of East Islip, Carol of Farmingdale, Robert of Florida and Richard and his wife Marilyn of Riverhead; her daughter in-law, Teresa of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and her her son-in-law, Lawrence of Spring, Texas. Her 38 grandchildren and 72 great grandchildren also survive her. She was predeceased in 1976 by her husband of 59 years, Gilbert; her son, George and her daughter, Dolores.
The Reverend David W. Anglin, pastor, St.Paul' s Lutheran Church, Amityville, conducted a prayer service on August 17, 2007. Pastor Anglin officiated at the Funeral Service in the Powell Funeral Home, Amityville, on August 18, 2007 followed by interment in Pinelawn Memorial Park.
