James Kiernan
Long Island Lutheran Middle & High School, Brookville, recognized the achievements of its outstanding students at its Annual Honors Banquet held June 11 at the Swan Club in Glenwood Landing. Among those honored were Amityville residents James Kiernan, Caitlyn Horton and Ashly Uss.

Kiernan received the Primus Athletic Award. The Primus Award is presented to students with the highest contribution and/or achievement in the areas of academics, athletics, cocurriculum or student life. The Primus Athletic Award recognized James' high standards of values, citizenship and sportsmanship.

MVP Athletic Awards were given to Kiernan for varsity wrestling and Horton for varsity volleyball. LuHi Athletic Awards are presented to the Most Valuable Player on each of the 2006-2007 interscholastic varsity sports teams. MVP Awards for Kiernan and Horton recognize their athletic talents, high standards of sportsmanship and ability to serve as positive role models for their teammates.

Horton also received the French Club Co-curricular Award as well as a certificate for the National Honor Society. Co-curricular Awards are presented to seniors who have made outstanding contributions in various co-curricular activities. Horton's French Club Co-curricular Award recognizes her dedication to all activities and functions related to the French Club.

Caitlyn Horton
Throughout their careers at LuHi, Horton and Kiernan have been active in many other activities. Kiernan has participated in varsity football and plans to attend West Virginia University, Morgantown in the fall. Horton has served as a member of Mathletes, golf, knitting club and manager of lacrosse. She has committed to play Division I volleyball for Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Middle School student Ashly Uss received the sixth grace Academic Scholarship Award. Scholarship Awards are presented to students in recognition of highest academic record or outstanding citizenship in school. Her Academic Award honors her unsurpassed work ethic and achievements in every area of Long Island Lutheran Middle School academics.
